Kentucky Senate Debate Gets Ugly Amid Accusations Involving 'Aqua Buddha' (VIDEO)

by Jeremy Taylor, posted Oct 18th 2010 5:43PM
Like much of the political world, the 'Morning Joe' (weekdays, 6 AM ET on MSNBC) crew was buzzing about the ugly debate that took place between Kentucky senate candidates Rand Paul and Jack Conway Sunday night.

Paul refused to shake Conway's hand at the end of the debate, because Conway wouldn't apologize for an ad he's been running which accuses Paul of kidnapping a fellow female student during his college years, tying her up, and forcing her to smoke marijuana while worshiping a god named Aqua Buddha.

The charge steams from an article GQ magazine that appears to have based on one anonymous source.

"You are going stand over there and accuse me of a crime from 30 years ago from some anonymous source," Paul said during the debate. "How ridiculous are you? You embarrass this race. . . Run a race like a man. Stand up and be a man instead of just calling me names."

Back on 'Morning Joe,' Mika Brzezinski pointed out Paul's demand that Conway "be a man" sounds an awful lot like Nevada Senatorial candidate Sharon Angle insisting that her opponent Harry Reid "man up" during their recent heated debate.

It seems like the unusual number of crazy races we've been blessed with this political season are starting to bleed into one.
