terri_colombino_cbs_as_the_world_turnsThis week, 'One Life to Live' made a bold move by casting a major star from the late, lamented soap 'As the World Turns.' Will she be the key to pumping up the ratings for 'OLTL'? Plus: Are you interested in a new book coming from a soap scribe? How about an apple pie made by a soap fave?

For all the news read on, and don't forget to read the Soap Round-Up every Saturday to find out what's been happening on screen the soap world.

Colombino Checks Into 'One Life to Live'
One of the most popular stars of 'As the World Turns,' actress Terri Colombino, has landed a new soap opera gig. Colombino has been cast on 'One Life to Live,' reportedly as a member of the Buchanan family, named Aubrey. That means she's related to Clint (Jerry ver Dorn) and Bo (Robert S. Woods) in some way, shape or form ... and that's a very good thing.

Buchanans are always good for some heavy0duty storytelling. The last thing you'd want to see is Colombino sitting around sans story. On 'ATWT,' she grew up into the role of Katie and had her share of dynamic leading men. By the way, the recently cast Joey Buchanan (Tom Degnan) was also on 'ATWT.' They can reminisce.

Are You Ready for the Real Story of the Soaps?
For over two decades, Carolyn Hinsey has been dishing about the soaps ... and now she's telling all in a new book. As a Soap Opera Digest columnist, Hinsey has had a front row seat on the soap world. Hinsey's new book, due out in 2011, is called 'Afternoon Delight: Why Soaps Still Matter,' and 4th Street Media is the publisher.

That title alone should make it a must-read for soap fans. For instance, Hinsey told TV Guide that there was no good reason for 'Guiding Light ' to have been axed in 2009. Hinsey claims that she'll go inside television and reveal the truth. She's an expert on ... "this crazy genre, I know where the bodies are buried."

A couple of weeks back, we reported that 'The Young and the Restless'' Thad Luckinbill had chosen to leave the show to try primetime. On screen, Luckinbill's character, J.T., is clinging to life and his chances of survival look grim. His last air date on 'Y&R' is Nov. 5.

Fortunately for Luckinbill, the primetime thing seems to be working out. After appearing on 'CSI' last week, he will be in the TV movie 'Randall Reunion Races.' He's joining Marion Ross ('Happy Days'), McKenna Jones and 'Touched by an Angel' star Roma Downey in the Hallmark Channel movie. Luckinbill is playing the fiance of Kayla Ewell, another former daytime star. Ewell was Caitlin on 'The Bold and the Beautiful,' as was Jones (she played Alexis on 'B&B'). The picture starts shooting next week in California and will be broadcast on Hallmark in 2011.

More Buchanan News on 'OLTL'
Last week we reported that 'One Life' had cast Tom Degnan to be the new Joey Buchanan. Now comes the news that Dan Gauthier, the actor who has been playing Kevin Buchanan, Joey's big brother on and off since 2003, is returning for a visit. Dan Gauthier will be back on November 18.

Two of the more familiar stars of daytime will also be dropping into primetime. Robert Newman (ex-Josh, 'Guiding Light') and Melissa Claire Egan (Annie, 'All My Children') have been cast on CBS's 'Criminal Minds.' Since it's 'Criminal Minds,' you know it's going to be deadly.

The synopsis for the episode, called 'Middle Man,' says it all: "As bodies of exotic dancers start turning up in the middle of cornfields in Indiana, the BAU is called in to help the local sheriff."

Soap Fave Stickin' Around 'Days'
Mary Beth Evans will staying on 'Days of Our Lives' for a while. The actress, who has been much beloved as Kayla Brady Johnson on the soap since the 1980s, is slated to remain on the NBC drama for at least 25 episodes.

In the week of Oct. 25, Kayla will be up to her neck in the paternity switch story, but the closer she gets to the truth, the more complicated the story becomes.

By the way, and just in time for the holidays, Evans' side business, Mary Beth's Mini Apple and Pumpkin Pies, are back sale at Williams-Sonoma.
