'Life Unexpected' (Tue., 9PM ET on CW) offers viewers an unusual student-teacher conference. Eric is dating Paige. But Lux, his student, has had a crush on him for ages. Lux's grades aren't good, and his private tutorials don't seem to be helping.

"You can't make this personal or fail out of school just because you're upset about me and Paige," he tells Lux. She replies, "I was failing out long before you showed up!"

Why does he so desperately want to continue tutoring her? "Because maybe tutoring is the only way I can actually spend time with you without it being wrong, OK?" Eric says. "It's the only thing that we're actually allowed to do together ... I don't want to give up getting to know you."

Wait, so is this a case of forbidden love? Or rather, that he's into Paige but wants to maintain a close friendship with a crushing high schooler? Neither is a very good idea, but talk about mixed messages.
