['Sanctuary' - 'Firewall']If there's one thing that science fiction has taught us it's that there's always a price to pay for coming back from the dead, and the events that unfolded in 'Kali' will have ramifications that the Sanctuary crew have yet to discover, but we may have gotten our first glimpse into what that might entail.
This week, the Sanctuary crew dealt with the aftermath of the Big Bertha incident, especially Will who had been pretty much a zombie ever since his resurrection. Not only did he have insomnia, but he also suffered from amnesia and couldn't recall the events from his visit to the spiritual realm.
Unlocking his memory required a scary looking device that the Sanctuary crew appropriated from light-manipulating abnormals who infiltrated the Sanctuary and probed Will's mind while he slept. But, before Mangus found out who they were and where they came from, the "chameleons" pulled a self destruct maneuver and burned themselves from the inside out.
The "chameleons" were these white-skinned almost alien like creatures who were telepathic and had clearly practiced capoeira. Even though they self-destructed, I have a feeling that we haven't seen the last of these guys.
Aside from the secrets locked in Will's mind, Magnus had her hands full tying up loose ends. First, she and Declan updated the Sanctuary Network on the clean-up post-Big Bertha, but Terrence was more concerned with Magnus' position as their leader. He had it out for her because of the way she humiliated him in Mumbai. In the end, the network settled the matter by reinstating Magnus and revoking Terrence's title as head of the New York house.
Next, Magnus and Kate investigated the origins of the counter wave that neutralized Big Bertha's apocalypse wave. They discovered that there was an electromagnetic anomaly detected in Indonesia that caused the counter wave, but they were still in the dark as to who initiated it.
Enter Will. As the episode title implied, Will had something blocking his memory and once Henry figured out that the purpose of the "chameleons" device was to stimulate the brain to retrieve memories, they used it on Will to break through that firewall. By doing so they unlocked two key pieces of information.
The first revealed the identity of the creature who sent the counter wave. In the temple, there were three super-abnormal avatars and after Kali was hurt, one of the others stepped in to help Will by sending the counter-wave.
The second piece of information was a secret message specifically for Helen. One of the hooded men in the temple turned out to be Gregory Magnus! Gregory planted a secret message in Will's subconscious memory to be recalled at a later time.
The message was a code, and as we learned last season, Gregory Magnus was all about impossible codes that only Helen could break. Once Helen broke the coded message, it revealed the location of a lost etropolis. Looks like the Sanctuary crew will be going on a quest this season. A little Indiana Magnus, perhaps?
Season 3 Observations:
- Looks like Sanctuary is moving away from the whole scientific approach to the abnormal phenomenon and focusing more on the supernatural and archaeological aspect of the mysteries of the world.
- The change in theme music is clearly a signal that the show is taking a more global approach. I'm sure we'll a see lot more world travel.
- Declan's still around, which is odd because he's supposed to be the head of the London house. Is he leaving? Staying?
