Bill Maher -- I "Created and Destroyed" Tea Partier Christine O'Donnell (VIDEO)
Comic and pundit Bill Maher showed up on the new 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 11PM ET on TBS). Bill and host George Lopez had a freewheeling discussion about the state of American politics. Bill also claimed that he had "created" a polarizing figure -- current Senate candidate Christine O'Donnell.Lopez wasn't a fan of Ms. O'Donnell, calling her a "anti-masturbation witch." At this point, Maher raised his hand in the air -- and took the credit (or the blame) for Christine. "Well, I'm responsible for [her,]" he said. O'Donnell first gained national prominence on 'Politically Incorrect,' Maher's old show.
After she began her Senate campaign, Bill began airing old clips of O'Donnell. The clips included her saying that masturbation is "sinful," that evolution is a "myth," and involved a discussion of her youthful dabbling in witchcraft. These views hurt Christine's standing in the polls, and Maher took credit for this as well. "I both created her and destroyed her," he said. "I'm like God."
Maher added that he didn't care so much about O'Donnell's views on witchcraft or masturbation -- "I happen to know she does [masturbate,]" he quipped. He more had a problem with her right-wing politics in general: "She has some actually 'ugly' ideas ... like all right-wingers do." Bill then praised Barack Obama while criticizing Sarah Palin and George W. Bush -- making it fairly clear what side of the political aisle he is on.
