Zach Galifianakis Lights Up a Joint on 'Real Time' (VIDEO)

On 'Real Time With Bill Maher' (Friday, 10 PM ET on HBO) the panel was discussing California's ballot initiative Proposition 19, which would legalize various marijuana activities and allow local governments to collect taxes on marijuana sales. Zach Galifianakis decided to make an unusual contribution to the debate.

"It's a tricky thing politically to jump on that bandwagon, Galifianakis said. "Because I think that maybe people see it as taboo still..."

Then, as Lawrence O'Donnell began to say something, the crowd started laughing and applauding because Galifianakis had lit up a joint.

After inhaling with great gusto, Galifianakis passed the joint to Margerat Hoover, who didn't partake but smelled it and confirmed that it was real.

Galifianakis's point was that smoking pot doesn't suddenly make you a dysfunctional freak, as he believes some opponents of Prop 19 think it does. While it's doubtful that Galifianakis's stunt is actually going to influence how any Californian votes Tuesday, it does further confirm the comedian's role as this generation's Andy Kaufman.
