On the 'DWTS' Scene: Is Bristol Palin Leaving the Competition?
Scores don't always matter on 'Dancing With the Stars.' (Just ask Audrina Patridge and Tony Dovolini, who, despite being ranked second from the top last week, got the boot.) Still, with only six couples remaining in the competition, low-ranking teen activist Bristol Palin and partner Mark Ballas could exit the show tonight.
Ballas' father, Corky Ballas, who was paired with Florence Henderson this season, isn't surprised that his talented son has lasted this long in the competition. Sure, he's biased, but Corky knows Mark's a great teacher.
"Votes play a huge part on the show," Corky said. "Bristol has amazing flow and technical footwork. The voting's keeping her in there. She doesn't get emotional. She's cool as a cucumber."
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba called Palin's dance Monday night -- which was based on Kelly Osbourne's Viennese waltz from season 9 -- "endearing ... but still slightly dettached." Osbourne, a guest judge, gave Palin a "9."
"Kelly's comments were sweet and nice," Palin said. "I had big shoes to fill but I had fun with it."
The teen activist was pleased to see her scores increasing and the judges' comments becoming more flattering. "I'm working my butt off," she said. "I'm working my a-s-s off doing the best I can every week. I know I'm improving and the scores are showing that right now. We'll continue with that if we're voted into next week."
And, if they're not, Palin was OK with that, too. She said she'd have no problem returning to Alaska, where she works in a dermatologist's office.
"I'm still the exact same person," she told TV Squad. "I haven't changed a bit. I'll never be materialistic or into image or anything like that. At the end of the day, I'll always be Bristol Palin from Alaska."
That said, would Palin like to pursue other show biz opportunities? "I'm going to see what God and everything else has in store for me," she replied. "I don't think acting's something I'm really interested in. I could see hosting something or being on a panel, maybe even a judge?"
Is there a 'DWTS' judge she'd emulate? "Definitely not Bruno [Tonioli]," she chuckled. "I'd be like Carrie Ann -- or Len [Goodman] and get straight to the point!"
Watch for Palin to appear in her mother's upcoming TLC series, 'Sarah Palin's Alaska,' set to debut Sun., Nov. 14 at 9PM.
"It's not a reality show," the 'DWTS' competitor clarified. "We weren't filmed 24 hours a day. It's more behind-the-scenes. There's lots of [my son] Trip and me in it."
One perception Palin believes the series will debunk is that her mother is a diva. "She's not," Palin asserted. "It's going to be a great series, it's going to be awesome."
Otherwise, Palin avoids politics. "I'm just trying to figure out a dance," she said with a laugh. "I don't even vote for myself and Mark. I think [after Monday's show] I'm going to have to! I think I've done the least amount of press and 'campaigning' [while on this show.]"
