'Dirty Jobs': Mike Rowe Spits at 'Sea Monsters'On 'Dirty Jobs' (Tue., 8PM ET on Discovery), Mike Rowe takes on the worst careers known to man. He's climbed into sewers, collected bat droppings, even pulled chewing gum off of sidewalks. But the new episode adds a unique title to Rowe's resume -- "Sea Lamprey Exterminator."

What is a sea lamprey? They're horrifying "sea monsters." The creatures resemble a cross between an eel and a leech ... and they can grow up to three feet long.

Lampreys have suction-cup mouths with razor sharp teeth -- they attach themselves to fish, bore holes through their skin, and feast on the fish's innards. Grossed out yet? On occasion, lampreys have even attacked humans. Now it's Mike's job to deal with them.

Mike joins the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service -- who are fighting a lamprey infestation in the Great Lakes region. Rowe's wildlife expert leads the host to a tank filled with the monsters. Then, the expert tells Mike to spit into the tank. Whoa. Okay, lampreys are nasty. Still, spitting on them for no reason seems pretty rude.

But there's an explanation. Oddly enough, Lampreys find human saliva very unpleasant -- scientists are trying to extract a chemical from spit to make a natural repellent. Unfortunately, as the expert points out, lampreys are "excitable" -- and now they're not happy. Within seconds, the water in the tank is churning, as the creatures thrash and lunge through the air.

Wow. Is this what all spit does to the creatures, or is it just Mike? Even the expert looks puzzled: "What've you been eating, man?!" he asks the host.
