President Obama on '60 Minutes': 'I Do Get Discouraged' (VIDEO)
It hasn't been the greatest week for President Obama. His party suffered a historic reversal in the midterm elections, and the sitting president has faced criticism from all sides. And so, at the end of a very long week, he got to appear on '60 Minutes' (Sun., 7PM ET on CBS) and defend his record one more time.At times, it seemed like all the criticism was getting to Obama. He said this: "I do get discouraged." Correspondent Steve Kroft used the interview to grill Obama on the economy. The president said he was pleased with his record, but added that there were elements that were beyond his control. "As president ... you're held responsible for everything, but you don't always have control of everything."
According to Obama, the size of the nation's economy made it impossible for one man to bring us out of a recession. But he was glad that he had kept the country from stumbling into a "double-dip" economic crash. And even if he does get discouraged, the president closed things out with message of hope: "I am constantly reminded that we have been through worse times than these ... and we've always come out on top."
What do you think? Is Obama doing a good job? Should he not let his critics get him down? Or does he not listen to them enough?
