Will Fox Cancel 'Running Wilde' to Make Way for 'Breaking in'?
In news that could spell the end for struggling sitcom 'Running Wilde,' we hear that Fox execs may pick up Christian Slater's new comedy, 'Breaking In,' as a midseason replacement.According to deadline.com, Fox is in negotiations with Sony Pictures TV for a midseason order. Although the show's pilot tested well, the network passed on the series in May. However, they kept the project alive by ordering two scripts in June. This led Sony to extend the options on the cast, which means they should still be available if Fox decides to go ahead and order several episodes.
'Breaking In' is a single-camera workplace sitcom, set in a digital security firm. Sources say that Fox will use it to replace the chronically underperforming 'Running Wilde' in the 9:30PM ET slot on Tuesdays, airing after 'American Idol'.
Christian Slater signed on for the series back in March, and will reportedly play the lead role. The pilot was written by written by Adam F. Goldberg ('Aliens in the Attic') and directed by Seth Gordon ('The Office'), and cast members included Bret Harrison ('V,' 'Reaper').
'Running Wilde' follows an eccentric billionaire as he tries to win back his high school sweetheart. Although it generated plenty of pre-season buzz, it's faced steadily sinking ratings since the beginning, and reports of its imminent demise have been growing. Last month star Will Arnett backed an online fan campaign to save the show, but with Fox openly seeking a replacement, it seems as though he'll be unsuccessful.
