What to Watch: November 15 - 21

by Stephanie Earp, posted Nov 15th 2010 2:30AM
Glee - Tuesday November 16, 8PM ET/PT, Global/Fox

Every week, 'Glee' tries to sell its latest episode as a 'television event.' I haven't been buying. But this week, Gwyneth Paltrow guest stars as a substitute teacher when Will is sick. Gwyneth has been trying to make a music career happen for a while now, but she approached the enterprise with her usual subtlety. I think most people don't realize she can sing at all -- and even if she can't, that hasn't stopped her friend Madonna form making a go of it. Should be fun, watching cold fish Paltrow up against Lea the Diva.

Also This Week:

Mantracker - Monday November 15, 6PM ET/PT, OLN

I recently discovered 'Mantracker' on one of those early evenings where you flick by 100+ channels only to discover there is nothing on except this -- a cranky old man on a horse tracking two idiot twenty-somethings through a wooded stretch of northern Canada. And it's kind of awesome. Completely low-budget and somewhat predictable (Mantracker usually wins), it's one of those shows you instantly think of applying to be on, at least until you see an episode shot in the rain.

30 Rock
- Thursday November 18, 9PM ET/PT, Citytv/NBC

Tonight's episode confirms something I've always suspected -- office lottery pools are fraught with tension and can lead only to bad things. If you never win, you blame whoever buys the tickets and if you do win, you have to sort out how to split the money with a bunch of people you hope never to see again. Such is the dilemma Liz Lemon faces when she goes in on a crew lottery pool against all advice from Jenna and Tracy. Just to keep things at their wackiest, the gang also discovers that Jack is the voice of the pronunciation guide of an online dictionary.

Star Portraits
- Saturday November 20, 8PM ET, Bravo

For those who become accustomed to seeing Theo Fleury's face onscreen once a week from his work over at 'Battle of the Blades,' I have good news. He's the 'star' on 'Star Portraits' this evening. The show lines up three established artists and gets each one to paint a portrait of said star. The subject picks their favourite at the end of the episode, and producers submit their favourites to the National Portraits Gallery of Canada.
