Guillermo del Toro, David Eick Team for New 'Incredible Hulk' Series

Guillermo del Toro, David EickSome major talent is aligning to get 'Hulk' ready for smashing. Guillermo del Toro, the man behind the 'Hellboy' film franchise and 'Pan's Labyrinth,' and David Eick, executive producer on Syfy's 'Battlestar Galactica,' are in final negotiations to helm the Marvel Comics character's return to the small screen.

According to Deadline Hollywood, del Toro and Eick will work together to break down the story specifics and share a created by credit. If all goes according to plan, Eick will write and del Toro will direct if it fits into his schedule.

The TV series plot will include a retelling of the famous origin story, wherein scientist Bruce Banner is exposed to gamma rays that transform him into the Incredible Hulk when angry.

In the two feature films, the character was totally CGI, but in the original 1970s TV series Lou Ferrigno played the Hulk to Bill Bixby's Bruce Banner. Look for the new TV version to create the green monster through prosthetics, puppets and CGI. Del Toro will oversee the design of the Hulk.

Marvel has made two attempts to launch 'Hulk' as a film franchise, both with mediocre results. The character will be a part of Joss Whedon's 2012 'Avengers' film. Marvel and ABC plan to launch the series after the movie hits the screens.

The new 'Hulk' series is the first TV project from Marvel's new TV shingle that was created when Disney acquired the comic book company. 'Heroes' veteran and comic book scribe Jeph Loeb oversees Marvel TV.
