'Dancing With the Stars:' Who's Not Dancing in the Finale?
Only three couples will compete in the 'Dancing With the Stars' finale next week: Which star got the bad news tonight that the show will go on without them? All four had a great night last night, but whose time is up? Disney star Kyle Massey? Singer Brandy? Teen activist Bristol Palin? Or 'Dirty Dancing' star Jennifer Grey?
Keep reading to see if your votes -- or your decision not to vote last night -- influenced who'll compete for the Season 11 Mirror Ball Trophy.
We found out early on that Jennifer will be in the finals, then Kyle, leaving the bad news to fall either to (in the words of Tom Bergeron) underdog Bristol or season-long top-scorer Brandy.Nearly every elimination so far this season has been called "shocking," but who could have predicted that Brandy would not even make it to the finale?
Brandy looked near tears and partner Maks Chmerkovskiy winced in disappointment as Bergeron read their names. After a long embrace from Maks, Brandy said, "I don't know how to feel right now. it hasn't processed yet for me."
"I am shocked," Bruno Tonioli told her, "because last night you delivered a fantastic performance, amazing. I'm so disappointed... your freestyle, I was looking forward so much to seeing it." He begged her to perform their freestyle on Tuesday's results show.
Bergeron asked Maks to comment on the fact that this season has been so unkind to high scorers and the dancer, whose family emigrated from Russia, answered that the public voting is one of the things he loves about America and that he has "no regrets."
Pre-elimination, Len Goodman told Brandy, "every week you've impressed me so much... I think you've been brilliant." To Bristol, he said, "I don't think anyone in 11 seasons has had such a journey. It's not how you start, it's how you finish and you've gradually got stronger and stronger. Congratulations on getting this far."
Before the results were announced, Brandy and Maks were asked to reprise their sexy Argentino tango from the night before, the one that earned them their first perfect "30."
"How confident are you feeling right now?" Brooke Burke asked Brandy about 20 minutes into the show. "I'm very, very nervous, but I think whatever's meant to be will be," the singer answered.
Did Brandy get overconfident? "It comes across sometimes as she wants it too bad, like she's already thinking about the mirror ball, when you should be thinking about every moment as it comes," Mark Ballas said during a clips package when the pros discussed the contestants.
Or did Brandy's fans simply not vote in strong enough numbers?
What do you think? Did the fans get it wrong or right?
| No! I can't believe she won't be in the finale. | |
|---|---|
| Yes, she just didn't have the fanbase that the other stars do. |
