Julianne Moore's Sexy New Ad -- Banned in Italy! (VIDEO)

Julianne Moore's Sexy New Ad -- Banned in Italy! When you think of Italy, your first thought might be of spaghetti or pizza. But then, thoughts quickly turn to beautiful women, fashion, style -- which makes the country seem like the perfect place for Julianne Moore's new ad campaign. The actress is featured there in a series of ads and billboards for Bulgari, a company famous for its jewelry and handbags.

But Italy might not actually be the right place at all. Because Moore's sexy new ad was recently banned in Venice, Italy. Is it really so risqué? Julianne and host Jay Leno tried to figure this out on the new 'Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC).

The new ad campaign shows the actress, apparently lounging in the nude -- covered only by exotic animals and a few accessories. But the Mayor of Venice said the ad was "inappropriate" and kept the "Hollywood-style image" from being shown in the town square. In response to the scandal, Jay Leno gave the ad a lot of scrutiny: "I looked at this for an hour," he said, prompting embarrassed laughter from Ms. Moore.

Despite his possibly excessive attention to detail, Jay couldn't figure it out. Neither could Julianne. One ad showed her posed with birds, her "lady parts" covered by an enormous purse. This ad was banned. But another ad featured a nearly identical pose, with her breasts covered by a baby lion cub (of all things). This ad wasn't banned. Go figure. What do you guys think? Were the ads too sexy -- or not?

While I think it was tastefully done, I can see why they banned. Think about it. People allow nudity to affect them tremendously, whether it be getting turned on, making lewd comments, harassment, getting offended, etc. The fact that Jay Leno admitted to staring at it for an hour (pervert) only proves that that too much attention would be drawn to the nudity itself. Personally, I think that if you must use nudity or sex to market your product, then you are basically saying that your product is so unworthy of buying that you must degrade it in some way. Nudity isn't a big deal because people get offended by it. It's a big deal because perverts make it that way, and the perversion is what offends people.

The photo is wonderful and so is Julianne Moore. Trouble is these posters are not "usual posters" they are huge things that cover scaffoldings on buldings while there are works going on. And they are often too conspicuous, placed as they are next to world famous sight-seeing places. That is Venice, not any other modern town. I guess that is why the mayor was concerned.

Mandi - why is that relevant? The story is about the ad she posed for. What a stupid comment.

The animal skin had nothing to do with it, they use it all the time in Italy for belts, bags and the like. The problem was the lack of clothing, hard to believe a place has moral standards different than Hollywood but they do exist, even in Venice. What does that say about how far to the left this country has gone???

what all this crap has to do with all this movie star's questionable intelligence?
the best quality bags and shoes are made from animal skin, they are very beautiful, comfortable, impossible to buy with monthly salary, reserved only for them, etc. I hope there are thinking people.

Uh...excuse me, but...read the article. This is NOT why the ads were banned. They simply offended the proprieties of some old Venetian poop.

As close to art as an advertisement can get. I'm quite impressed. The photo with the birds is beautiful.
