Family TV Round-Up: 'Sonny With a Chance' Sans Demi Lovato, Thanksgiving Specials and More

'Sonny With a Chance' may go 'So Random!' without star Demi Lovato.Welcome to the Family TV Round-Up, a recap of all kid-friendly programming across the television universe. We sum up all of the news related to children's programming, as well as profile the people and shows that your kids, tweens and teens are talking about.

We start off with the dilemma facing the producers of Disney Channel's 'Sonny With a Chance.' With star Demi Lovato on indefinite hiatus due to personal reasons, the idea of focusing the newest season on the other characters of the show doesn't seem right.

Therefore, instead of the behind-the-scenes look at the fictional teen sketch show 'So Random!,' the producers will re-center the series on the sketch/music-variety show itself.
When production resumes in January for the show's third season, the first few episodes will feature 'So Random!' sketches, short videos, guest stars and musical performances. This comes on the heels of a 'So Random!' based episode that aired during Halloween and another that will air Thanksgiving weekend. What happens after those shows will depend if Lovato decides to return to the program.

In other news...

Jason Earles of 'Hannah Montana' fame will star in a new DisneyXD live-action comedy come next spring. 'Wasabi Warriors' revolves around a strip mall martial arts studio that gets a boost of confidence after a new leader comes in to teach the kids about karate and life. In addition to Earles, the series stars real life black belt Leo Howard of 'Leo Little's Big Show' as the new leader, Mateo Arias, little brother of Moises Arias, Alex Jones and Oliva Holt.

Cartoon Network will premiere its first CGI original TV movie on Thanksgiving Eve. 'Firebreather,' based on a comic book series of the same name, will air on Nov. 24 at 7PM. It's the story of an average high school kid whose father is an enormous fire-breathing dragon.

The day after Thanksgiving will see the Cartoon Network premiere of 'Young Justice.' The DC Comics-based special will introduce viewers to the team lineup of Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, Miss Martian and Artemis. Voice actors on the series include Jesse McCartney and Danica McKellar. 'Young Justice' premieres Nov. 27 at 7PM.

DisneyXD will be airing a new episode of 'Kick Buttowski - Suburban Daredevil' on Thanksgiving with guest voices Henry Winkler, Alyssa Milano and Tiffany Thornton. Winkler will star as the school principal, Milano as stunt double Scarlet Rosetti and Thornton will play TV actress Teen Sometimes. 'Kick Buttowski' will premiere at 8:30PM.

Thanksgiving will also provide a sneak peek at the latest 'Power Rangers' series. Titled 'Power Rangers Samurai,' the new live-action adventure series will air during a day-long marathon of movies on Nickelodeon. Viewers will also be able to catch a glimpse of the newest Rangers as they participate in the annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Nickelodeon's 'Victorious' gets the one-hour treatment on Thanksgiving weekend. The special, titled 'Freak the Freak Out' will feature new songs from star Victoria Justice and co-stars Elizabeth Gillies and Ariana Grande. The new 'Victorious' will premiere on Sat., Nov. 27 at 9PM.

Boomerang offers up a showing of a rare Thanksgiving special animated by Hanna-Barbera. 'The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn't,' produced in 1972, is the story of a pilgrim boy and the Native American friend as they try to avoid falling down a waterfall and getting eaten by a bear prior to the first Thanksgiving meal. Starring the voices of June Foray and Don Messick, 'The Thanksgiving That Almost Wasn't' will air on Thanksgiving Day at 10AM and 7PM.

Programming reminder: season four of 'Wizards of Waverly Place' premieres Sunday at 9PM. In the premiere, Alex announces to the world that she and her brothers are wizards.

Power Rangers Samurai will be my pick for this

Is it just me or are there others out there who think that Cartoon Network should be all cartoon/animated programming? That and what's with Disney. Fish Hooks is about the worst drawn animated series ever. Far below the standards that Disney used to have.
