'Harry Potter's' Daniel Radcliffe on the Weirdest Gift He's Ever Gotten (VIDEO)

As the star of the 'Harry Potter' film series, Daniel Radcliffe has no doubt received a bunch of odd presents from fans. ... Flowers, love letters, marriage proposals, and so forth. But on 'The Graham Norton Show' (Sat., 10PM ET on BBC America), the young actor discussed the weirdest gift he's ever gotten -- which came all the way from Japan. While talking with Graham Norton, Daniel mentioned the gift of an enormous plastic novelty ear -- he got it randomly in the mail, sent courtesy of an adoring Japanese fan. Unfortunately, Radcliffe didn't know what to do with it. At first he thought the present might be an odd insult, considering the fact that he has "quite small ears." But it wasn't an insult -- and the actor eventually got to the bottom of it.
After bringing up the "plastic novelty ear" in interviews, Daniel talked about it during a Japanese press conference. Here's what happened next: "The whole place just cracked up! It was just some great Japanese joke that I hadn't been let in on!" So what was the joke?
It seems that the "huge ear" gag is part of a famous Japanese comedy routine. If you're attending a formal party, you hide the ear in your hand, then say, "There's something wrong with my ear!" You then suddenly let the novelty item unfold right next to your head. This is apparently hilarious. It just goes to show that humor doesn't always cross cultural boundaries. Even if the 'Harry Potter' films do.
