Justin Bieber Wins Top Honors at the AMAs

Teen pop sensation Justin Bieber dominated last night's American Music Awards, winning four trophies. "I can't stop smiling" he said afterward.Although the ceremony featured pop veterans New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys -- the Ghosts of Teenyboppers Past, perhaps? -- performing together, the night belonged to Bieber. He became the youngest winner of the top award, for Artist of the Year, and also won awards for Best Pop/Rock Male, Best Breakthrough Artist and Best Album.
When he accepted the top AMA honor, Bieber invited R&B star Usher to join him on-stage. Recognizing how Usher helped launch his career, Bieber called him "not only my mentor but my best friend and my big brother."
Sunday night's broadcast of the AMAs on CBS was controversy-free. Unlike last year's, which featured Adam Lambert's now-infamous performance -- our pick for Top TV Moment of 2009 -- in which he simulated oral sex and kissed his male keyboardist. This year's ceremony, by contrast, was notable for Bieber's runaway success and the sheer volume of screaming it provoked from Bieberites in the audience.
Other winners last night were double-honorees Usher and Eminem, Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum and Carrie Underwood.
