'The Catch' and Other Obvious Reality Show Ideas

Girl with ballWho knew it was so easy to come up with reality show ideas that networks will buy?

According to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC has ordered a pilot for a show called 'The Catch,' based on the children's backyard game. It's from FremantleMedia North America, the company behind 'American Idol,' and to expand the simple back-and-forth game into an ongoing TV series, they're going to add extreme challenges to it, à la ABC's 'Wipeout.' (One possible idea, for instance, involves dropping balls out of helicopters over a mud pit.)

If NBC picks up 'The Catch,' it'll join the network's other summer reality entry, 'Love in the Wild,' which combines 'Survivor'-style outdoor challenges with 'Bachelor'-style dating.

This makes us here at TV Squad wonder: If it's this easy to create new reality shows, out of hybrids of existing shows and simple children's games, why aren't we in there pitching to the networks? We have a lot of great ideas that we spent a full five minutes thinking up. For example:

'America's Next Top Dodgeball Player': You have your choice: either be pelted with red rubber projectiles, or be pelted with insults from Tyra Banks.

'Kick the Can': To make it more interesting and TV-friendly, you'll have to show off your dance steps before you kick. Hosted by Cat Deeley.

'The Biggest Stickball Loser': It won't be enough just to bat and run; calorie loss will be counted as well.

'Hell's Mud Pies': Children will have their playtime mock culinary creations mercilessly criticized by Gordon Ramsay. Finalists will advance to the Easy-Bake Oven round.

'American Musical Chairs': Like 'Idol,' but you survive not just by singing the best, but also by not being the last to sit down when the singing is over.

'Hide and Job Seek': The winner gets hired by Donald Trump -- but only if he finds you first.

This ones got to be a hit.....it's real.

It's a show about me and my four year (and counting) battle over my civil rights against no less than 40 individuals on the Yahoo Finance Message Board for Cree.

These people have been attacking every aspect of my life going all the way back to my birth in retaliation for me filing a charge of age discrimination against Cree in November 2007.

Wouldn't it be great to have life sized games like Monopoly or Life as game shows?
