Jennifer Grey Cements Place as 'Dancing' Favorite With Two Perfect Scores (VIDEO)
There were questions to be answered on 'Dancing With the Stars' (Mon., 8PM ET on ABC). Questions like: Would Jennifer and Derek remain the front-runners? Would Bristol Palin continue her improbable march to the finals? Would the ghost of Brandy haunt the studio, 'Phantom of the Opera'-style, after her bizarre elimination last week? And tonight's show raised an additional question... what was the deal with that watermelon?
We'll get to the watermelon in a second. The theme for the show was "Redemption/Freestyle." Each pair had to re-do an older dance, followed by a routine of their choice. In both cases, Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough knocked it out of the park.
After scoring a perfect "30" on the paso doble, Jennifer returned for a freestyle dance inspired by her film 'Dirty Dancing.' Though she'd been worried about her lingering neck injury, she didn't seem concerned on the dance floor, letting Derek jump directly over her head to start the performance. The pair even got up and danced on the judges' table, as they shimmied to the classic song 'Do You Love Me?'.
The judges were effusive in their praise, holding up three "10" cards, which meant two perfect scores for the night. Len Goodman said this to Jennifer: "You're like a juggernaut ... heading straight for that mirror-ball trophy!" We'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if he's right. Grey scored a total of 60 points for the evening, Kyle Massey scored 56, and Bristol scored 52 points.
... Oh, and that watermelon. Along with Jennifer's song choice, it's another reference to 'Dirty Dancing.' Her character in the film is carrying a watermelon when she first meets Patrick Swayze.
