There'll Be No 'Dirty Dancing' Lift for Jennifer Grey in the 'DWTS' Finale
The long wait to see who'll be crowned 'DWTS' is nearly at an end. But don't hold your breath waiting for finalist Jennifer Grey to recreate her famous 'Dirty Dancing' lift sequence.
The "air lift" move she performed with co-star Patrick Swayze has become one of the most iconic scenes in 'Dirty Dancing,' and fans have been on the edge of their seats hoping that Grey and partner Derek Hough would pull it out of the bag in the finals.
However, in an interview with People, Grey said "I won't be doing the lift in the finals ... Everyone should not expect that."
Even if she did consider it briefly, doctors told her that doing it could seriously injure her neck and back. Grey underwent the first of three neck surgeries only a year ago, and has been plagued by injuries all season.
Talking about her experiences on the show, the fifty-year-old actress said that "It so surpassed my wildest dreams. I'm so proud I was able to say yes in the first place and that I had the courage to do it," adding that it's been "the hardest thing I've ever done -- except maybe childbirth."
She said that she and her fellow finalists, Kyle Massey and Bristol Palin, "are just so psyched. ... We all feel good and we're cheering each other on so much. We all feel that we made it so far and [being in the] finals is the gravy -- the cherry on top."
Although Grey enters the finals without her lift, she does have one advantage: Last night she took the lead again on 'DWTS' after she picked up six perfect tens from the judges for her Paso Doble and Freestyle performances.
'Dancing With the Stars' Results Show and Season Finale airs live, tonight, 9PM ET on ABC.
