Eliza Dushku Lands TNT Pilot, Dan Aykroyd Books 'Defenders' Guest Spot and More

Eliza DushkuEliza Dushku is returning to TV, but this time the sci-fi/fantasy darling is getting a gun and a badge. Dushku has been tapped to play the lead in TNT's pilot 'Bird Dog.'

According to Deadline Hollywood, Dushku will play Gail McGrath, a young cop who has a fractured past with her police officer father. The character is living a seemingly normal life until her cop father turns up on her doorstep as her new partner. The name of the mystery series, 'Bird Dog,' is also the duo's call sign.

D.B. Sweeney has also landed a pilot role. 'The Event' actor has been tapped to star in TBS's 'Brain Trust' as Detective Billy Doyle. The character goes from rock bottom to a career high after he gets unexpected help from three geniuses who work for a private company.

In other TV news ...

The Blues Brothers are getting back together -- but this time on CBS's 'The Defenders.' Aykroyd will play a corrupt judge over two episodes that are scheduled to be shot in January. [Variety]

'The Walking Dead' saw its best numbers yet on Nov. 28. The season's fifth episode brought in 5.5 million total viewers and 3.7 million in the 18-49 demographic. The ratings were 15 percent higher than episode four's viewership. [Live Feed]

Marc Singer, star of the original 'V,' will appear on ABC's 'V' reboot this winter. Singer has been tapped to play Lars Tremont, a member of a secret society of high-powered humans who believe the Visitors are not on Earth to spread peace. [TV Guide]

Fox and Anderson Cooper are teaming up ... sort of. Fox will air Cooper's new daytime talk show on KTTV Los Angeles, WFLD Chicago and WFXT Boston. The program will air on WPIX in New York. [Variety]

AJ Michalka will guest star on 'Hellcats.' AJ will join her sister, Aly, on the CW series for multiple episodes as a young woman who works at a local record store. [Zap2It]

'Lost' actor Doug Hutchison will guest star on 'Lie to Me.' Known for his portrayal of Horace Goodspeed on 'Lost,' Hutchinson will play a detective whose world is turned upside when when his daughter is kidnapped. [Movieline]

Cartoon Network has renewed 'Adventure Time,' 'Regular Show' and 'MAD.' 'Regular Show' and 'MAD' first debuted in September, and 'Adventure Time' is in its second season. [Deadline Hollywood]

Kristoffer Polaha is in business with CBS. The 'Life Unexpected' star has signed a talent holding deal that could see him in the lead role of a new CBS Studios production next fall. [Deadline Hollywood]

E!'s 'Bridalplasty' premiere tanked in the ratings. The show received a good amount of press, but only managed to bring in 900,000 viewers at 9PM. Other E! shows on Sunday nights have pulled in between 1-2 million viewers. [Live Feed]

This just in: Eliza Dushku's new show "Bird Dog" as been cancelled by Fox before it even aired. When asked how Fox could cancel a show that was set to appear on another network, TNT revealed Fox owns exclusive rights to fuck with Dushku's fans.
