Bill Cosby vs. Atticus Shaffer on 'The Tonight Show' (VIDEO)

Bill Cosby vs. Atticus Shaffer on 'The Tonight Show'Kids can say the darndest things. At least, they do when Bill Cosby is around. On the new 'Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC), the legendary comedian was the guest -- but he wasn't even the main event! Instead, the 73-year-old actor and comic was just the "warm-up act" ... for 12-year-old Atticus Shaffer.

Shaffer, star of the sitcom 'The Middle,' is at least very respectful to his elders. Atticus joked that after learning he would be appearing with "the Cos," he suffered a mild stroke. "When I got the phone call ... I heard I was going to be on 'Jay Leno'; I picked myself up off the floor from fainting. ... Then they said that I'm going to be on after Bill Cosby -- then my heart skipped a beat."

Aw, how polite! But would this be a sufficient level of tribute for Mr. Cosby? Apparently not. The comedian gestured at Atticus while furrowing his brow: " ... Is that all?" What? You want more than Atticus having a heart attack?

Apparently so. Shaffer improvised, and upgraded the medical condition that he experienced to a "sub-coma." Now, "the Cos" was pleased. "Yes!" he said, while shaking the young actor's hand. Cosby then continued with his praise for Atticus, but wait -- let's render what he said next in an actual transcription of "Cosby speak": "Y-EeeS! Sub-COma ... for ... ME. ... THANK YOU, sir. I ... APPRE-cia-TE ... the sub ... coMA." Sweet. Thank you "Cos," and thank you, Mr. Shaffer.
