Magic Johnson: Joining with AEG to Bring NFL to L.A. (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Dec 1st 2010 5:00AM
Magic Johnson Talks NFL in LA on 'Jimmy Kimmel'Magic Johnson recently sold his 4.5 percent stake in the Los Angeles Lakers for an estimated $27 million, as well as over 100 Starbucks franchises for a reported $75 million. What's he going to do with all that cash? Bring the NFL to Los Angeles, he said on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC), confirming earlier reports.

"I'm announcing this today: I've teamed up with Tim Leiweke at AEG, and we're gonna come together to bring the NFL back to Los Angeles," Johnson said.

Jimmy Kimmel replied, "I think the NFL likes to keep Los Angeles vacant because then they can play blackmail with the other teams and tell them, 'Oh, if you don't give us a stadium we're going to move the team to L.A.'"

Kimmel is right. LA is the favorite method of extortion for overpriced stadiums like Jerryworld. St. Louis is using it as well as Minnesota and even Buffalo.

I really miss having an NFL tream here in LA. I would love to have a team finally. Please give us a home team to cheer for. In the days of Carol Rosenbloom we did have a team the LA Rams and there was some greats on that team.

sorry for the above typing errors. Should read:

"if a team were..."
"why make it worse..."

Being born and raised in Los Angeles would like to add about the NFL coming to LA.

1. We have not missed the NFL in our town. Yes, a local team to support is fun, but not important.

2. If an NFL team wer to come to Los Angeles, there would be a traffic nightmare on game days. We already have a mess, way make it worse?

3. My vote for a new team name would be "The Los Angeles Riots". Because if we have to have a team, then the name should reflect the history and current condition of the city!

I just like baseball...Dodgers? Angels? Anyone?

L.A. won't support an NFL team.
Never has, never will.

How about they call the team " The L.A. REHABS " Seems like everyone in that town is in some sort of institution
