'Dexter' fans, it's now official: Your favorite Showtime series about a serial killer has been renewed for a sixth season, the network announced this morning."'Dexter' is the best suspense drama on television," Showtime President of Entertainment David Nevins said in a statement. "To grow its audience so significantly in its fifth season is an enormous accomplishment by this amazing cast and crew. This is the easiest decision I've made since I got to Showtime."
It's not like this is a surprising move -- it was an all-but-done deal last week after the Nov. 28 episode earned the show's second-highest ratings ever (2.5 million viewers), according to The Hollywood Reporter -- but it's happy news for 'Dexter' fans nonetheless.
Star Michael C. Hall, who recently battled Hodgkin's lymphoma, won the Golden Globe for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama this year.
The fifth season finale airs Sun., Dec. 12 at 9PM ET.
