'The Amazing Race': The Teams Skate (and Fall) in South Korea (VIDEO)
And we're back for the penultimate installment of 'The Amazing Race' (Sun., 8PM ET on CBS). Which is exciting, because how often do you get to use the word "penultimate"? (Only once per season, as it turns out). We had four teams left, but only three spots for the final episode. So, who would make the cut? Well, that depends on your definition of the term.Tonight's Detour involved a speed-skating race in Seoul, South Korea, and no one really "made the cut," ice-skating-wise. The teams had to complete 24 laps of the stadium course, but there was no time-limit -- which was a good thing, as no one was particularly good at skating. So we were treated to an endless montage of the contestants stumbling and falling on the ice.
The girlfriend/boyfriend team of Jill and Thomas used the event as a chance to get some couples-related bickering in, with Thomas telling Jill to "pick it up," despite the fact that he was pretty bad at skating himself. Brooke and Claire (better known as "Team Watermelon Disaster") cracked up while commenting on Thomas's "unique" ice skating style: "I just loved watching Thomas! Click, click, click, click, click! He was like, running in his skates!"
In the end, Thomas's encouragement paid off, and he and Jill "speed" skated their way to victory. Not that it mattered much. Since Nick and Vicki (a.k.a., "Team Quitters") started the episode with a six-hour time penalty, they were never seriously in contention, and were eliminated. Meaning that our teams for the finals are: Jill/Thomas, Team Watermelon, and the all-doctor team of Nat and Kat. This puts two all-female teams in the finals, giving 'The Amazing Race' a serious chance of having its first "women only" champions.
