Katie Couric Went on a Blind Date With ... Bob Saget (VIDEO)
In the annals of "unexpected blind dates," Katie Couric plus Bob Saget is about as unexpected as Jon Stewart and Jennifer Aniston. But both of these things actually really happened. It just goes to show that romance can bloom anywhere. (Well, sort of.)On 'The Late Late Show' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS), Ms. Couric discussed her first date with Mr. Bob Saget -- famous for being the star of 'Full House,' the host of 'America's Funniest Home Videos' -- as well as for being a surprisingly dirty stand-up comedian. Host Craig Ferguson was intrigued. Did things work out on the date?
... Well, no. They didn't. Although the news anchor did describe Mr. Saget as being "lovably neurotic." This is sort of what we call "faint praise," or "letting someone down easy," though. Who really wants to be called lovably neurotic during a romantic situation? In retrospect, it's unfortunate that Craig couldn't have been the third wheel on the date. He had an excellent suggestion, which he offered to Katie free of charge. "You could have hit him in the nuts with something, and that would have been great."
There was a 0.5 second pause, and then the host added this piece of unnecessary clarification: "Y'know, people in the 'America's Funniest Home Videos,' they always -- get hit in the nuts with things?" Katie gave him a blank-faced stare. " ... Yeah?" she said. There was another short yet deadly pause. " ... Yeah," Ferguson replied. Maybe Ms. Couric and comedians just aren't really on the same page. Too bad! We would have been interested in a Craig/Katie pairing as well.
