Jason Alexander Preps Return to TV

by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 8th 2010 2:45PM
Jason AlexanderForget those Jenny Craig commercials -- Jason Alexander is getting ready to return to TV with a new series.

The 'Seinfeld' veteran is developing an hourlong series about a private investigator at CBS that would see him executive producing and starring. Hm, guess 'The Michael Richards Show' didn't teach 'Seinfeld' alumni to stay away from detective work.

According to Variety, the project would star Alexander as a former TV star who joins his ex-wife's detective agency. It's with the detective agency where the character discovers a knack for undercover and disguise work.

Alexander's last headlining role was in CBS's 'Listen Up,' where he played a sports radio host. He recently appeared alongside his fellow 'Seinfeld' stars on Larry David's HBO hit 'Curb Your Enthusiasm.' Fellow 'Seinfeld' star Julia Louis-Dreyfus is also prepping a new series, 'Veep,' on HBO.

Simon Barry will write and co-executive produce the untitled CBS project with Carol Yumkas serving as producer.

Tell us: Does this role sound like a good fit for Jason Alexander?

I hope it's a bungling detective like John Candy played in his movies.

The older he gets, the more he looks like Colonel Klink from Hogan's Heroes. All he needs is a monocle.

Jason Alexader! You mean George is comming back...Again? Oh, Goody, where can I purchase a DVD/CD recorder; price is no object!!! Perhaps he can reprise the obsequious role he played in his last great success? Will Malcolm Jamal Warner be his maestro in this one also? This time he can play a border guard groveling for the illegals he encounters.

I remember first seeing him on an old TV show called ER as the fisty hospital CEO with Elliott Gould as the star. George Clooney had a recurring bit part and the house keeper in 2 1/2 men was the receptionist clerk.
Yeah, put him in a private eye type show.
