'Dexter' Divorce Update: Julia Stiles Denies Being Involved in Michael C. Hall's Split

by PopEater Staff, posted Dec 17th 2010 10:45AM
Dexter divorceAfter 'Dexter' stars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter announced their divorce, rumors began swirling about what might have caused the break-up. One of the most popular? That 'Dexter' guest star Julia Stiles was secretly dating Hall.

Well, that's just not the case, says 29-year-old Stiles. UsMagazine.com reports she released the following statement on Thursday: "I have absolutely nothing to do with the split between Michael and Jennifer. We are good friends and enjoyed working together."

"This is a personal matter between them, and we should respect their privacy. Although I too prefer to keep my private life private, I felt compelled to dispel the rumors I was somehow the cause for this matter," she concluded.

Earlier this week, Hall and Carpenter announced their separation after two years of marriage. "Having been separated for some time, Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall have filed for divorce," the reps said in a joint statement. Both reps stressed the split was amicable.

TMZ reported that Carpenter filed her official petition for divorce on Thursday afternoon. The date of separation was listed as August 9, 2010--almost four months ago. She also asked for spousal support.

Hall, 31, and Carpenter, 31, met on the set of 'Dexter' and soon began dating. They married on December 28, 2008.

Since the reason for the split is not public, perhaps she has a reason to feel that he should compensate her. Doesn't mean she's going to get it, or a lot if she does. It's a negotiation.

Also, Hall is 39--six weeks away from 40--not 31.

I hear ya Mike.

I'm sorry to hear they are getting a divorce, they seem like nice people, but I just don't understand why she would need spousal support. ??? They were only married for two years and have no children. I understand that he probably earns more because he's the star of the show and she only plays a supporting character but even so, I can't imagine the gap in their salaries being so huge it would cause her think that her current "living expenses and lifestyle" are going to change so drastically. Come on! If the split is so amicable just call it a wash go your separate ways.

She wants spousal support? Why? She's an actress just like he is an actor. She has not contributed to his success, or vice versa. I would fight THAT tooth and nail.

Makes it appear that the prospect of alimony was a major reason for her marrying him!
