'Futurama' and New TV Shows on DVD, Streaming Online for Dec. 21, 2010

Comedy nerds everywhere cheered when Comedy Central announced it was bringing 'Futurama' back to the tube. But after a series of hit-and-miss DVD movies (that also aired on Comedy Central) and talk of recasting the show's lead voice actors (luckily, that never happened), fans started feeling nervous about the relaunch of Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's sharp, bitter and hilarious ode to the future. As our own Danny Gallagher pointed out in his recaps of the show, the comeback started out on a rocky note with Groening and crew tying up the loose ends from the final DVD movie ('Into the Wild Green Yonder'). But the new season started to hit its stride around the halfway point with episodes about "robosexuality" -- the love that sprouts between a robot and a human -- and managed to end on a high note with an all-out mutant revolution.
The Volume 5 DVD and Blu-Ray set features commentary tracks for all 13 episodes, plus deleted scenes, making-of featurettes, and "Bender's First, Best, and Only Music Video!" Watch an exclusive deleted scene clip from the DVD, after the jump.
Plus: TV Squad is giving away five copies of the 'Futurama: Volume 5' DVD. To enter the giveaway, scroll down to the bottom of the post for details.
Also new on DVD today:
'Caprica' Season 1.5: Should we cheer or should we weep? This set features six never-before-seen episodes of the moody but fascinating and ambitious 'Battlestar Galactica' prequel. Win! But it also serves to remind us that Syfy yanked 'Caprica' off the air in October and scheduled the show's final act to run next year, after the episodes were released on DVD. Boo!
'Family Guy' It's a Trap (DVD and Blu-ray): Seth McFarlane's popular trilogy about another popular trilogy is finally complete. McFarlane's crude and (sometimes) clever riff on 'Return of the Jedi' is probably the guiltiest piece of guilty pleasure entertainment on the market this holiday season. Enjoy it with your rowdy nephews.
