Spoilers Anonymous In-Depth: 'V'

Spoilers AnonymousThis is Spoilers Anonymous In-Depth, a weekly column here at TV Squad where we discuss and give our two cents about recently released spoilers and how they may affect the storylines, shows and fans.

This in-depth version of the column goes hand in hand with our weekly spoilers column in which we supply you with the dirt on some of the more popular shows on the air.

This week, we discuss spoilers for the upcoming season of 'V,' which will premiere on January 4 on ABC.

VBack on Aug. 10, I wrote a 'Spoilers Anonymous In-Depth' with some 'V' spoilers for the second season -- such as the show giving us more tidbits about the Visitors' mythology, as well as the addition of original 'V' baddie Jane Badler (pictured at left with 'V' star Morena Baccarin) in a recurring capacity. Therefore, I won't tackle these spoilers this time around, you can read about them in the August post here.

Original 'V' star Marc Singer will guest star in the second season finale as Lars Tremont, a member of a super top secret organization comprised of high-ranking military and government leaders from around the globe and who have long suspected that the Visitors are very much not here in peace.

The stars of the original 'V' series were definitely Jane Badler and Marc Singer. Having them both guest star on the new series is pure genius, especially since they will stay on their respective sides -- Badler with the Visitors and Singer with the good guys.

Sadly, Singer will not reprise his role of Mike Donovan but will instead play the new role of Lars Tremont. On the upside, from the few spoilers we have about the role, it seems like Tremont will be on the Fifth Column side of things and may try to bring the Visitors down -- just like Mike Donovan did in the original series. As a fan of the original series and the new version, I would have felt cheated if Singer had played a Visitor or someone who was devoted to them.

When the announcement came that Singer would join the new 'V,' it mentioned that it could be in a recurring capacity. However, due to the episode-order cut, he will now be introduced in the second season finale, which, if ratings are not that great, could end up being the series finale. Bummer, eh? If we want to prevent that from happening, we must watch 'V' live and try to get new U.S. viewers to join on the fun live each week.

Bret Harrison will play the recurring character of Dr. Sidney Miller, an evolutionary biologist who may know what caused the red sky.

I have mixed feelings about this casting news. I've enjoyed Harrison in such series as 'Reaper,' 'The Loop,' and 'Grounded for Life' ... all comedies. So I'm a bit unsure I'll be able to see past his goofy side and believe in his character, Dr. Miller. This seems a rather serious role and a major departure for for Harrison. Then again, 'V' writers could write the role in such a way that even if the job is serious, the character isn't, which could offer some light comic relief in the dark sci-fi drama. One upside to this casting is that 'Reaper' had a decent fanbase, who could follow Harrison to his 'V' gig and help push the ratings up.

A major female character will be beheaded in an early episode.

There are not many major female characters on the show and one of them, Valerie, died at the end of last season. In the "major" category I would include: Erica, Lisa and Anna. It's doubtful Erica or Anna would die so early in the series. Lisa is a major character but the series could do without her, and her death could bring some rather huge drama as mommy dearest Anna would surely wreck havoc more than she is doing now in order to get revenge.

I don't recall if Dr. Leah Pearlman died in the first season finale or not. If not, she could be considered major-ish and be the one who'll be beheaded.

But what if beheaded doesn't mean dead? Could Anna or Lisa be beheaded and their alien genes allow them to regenerate a head?

What are you looking forward to for the upcoming season of 'V'? Are you excited that original 'V' cast Jane Badler and Marc Singer are going to be part of the second season? Whom do you think will be beheaded? Share your predictions and two cents in the comment section below.

'V' retuins Jan. 4 and airs Tuesdays at 9PM ET on ABC. Below is a preview clip of the season premiere.
