'Skating With the Stars' Finale Bombs in the Ratings ... Thank You, America
If a celebrity-driven reality show crowns a winner and only 3.4 million viewers watch, does the champion's career still benefit? Soap star and recent 'Skating With the Stars' winner Rebecca Budig is about to find out.According to the Live Feed, the finale of 'Skating With the Stars' was seen by only 3.4 million viewers and grabbed a meager 0.8 in the 18-49 demographic. Ouch. Very low numbers, but not surprising.
Several aspects doomed 'Skating With the Stars' from the beginning. Not that I'm complaining -- the last thing American TV needs is another reality competition that cycles through the same "stars."
'Skating With the Stars' wasn't an original concept. Stars on ice? If people were interested, they would've tuned in and watched Fox's 'Skating with Celebrities' in 2006. Plus, using the word "stars" to describe the cast was a bit of a stretch.
To make the series work, the celebrities needed to be much bigger. When the most popular name amongst the group is Bethenny Frankel, a Bravo reality TV star, then there is probably something wrong right off the bat. The lack of even B-list names was only made worse by not including household name professional skaters.
With that said, you all deserve a big thank you. Because of your ambivalence toward aging rock stars and reality stars strapping on ice skates, 'Skating With the Stars' will hopefully not become a "thing."
