TVR Awards -- Best Segment Featuring Conspicuous Alcohol Consumption During the Fourth Hour of 'Today' (VIDEO)

Certainly, no one would begrudge Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb an occasional libation now and then. Except, they seem to drink all the time while on the air. It's indeed never too early in the morning for the hosts of the fourth hour of 'Today.' In that spirit, we present five examples of our favorite imbibers in the Best Segment Featuring Conspicuous Alcohol Consumption During the Fourth Hour of 'Today.' Cheers!

The Nominees:

Joel McHale Ups the Boozy Ante: Joel McHale mocks Gifford and Kotb's on-air drinking by cracking open a bottle of single-malt scotch. "Don't even start with that!" said Kotb. "What are you talking about? I'm on your show," McHale replied. "This is the only place I can do this. You know, in the morning."


Hoda Kotb Finds a Reason to Celebrate: Kotb surely doesn't need an excuse to drink, but she finds one in guest co-host Mark Feuerstein's birthday. Together, the two mark the actor turning 39. "Toast me," said Kotb. "Because that's what we do on this program." You sure do.


The Hosts Somehow Lose at Bottle Opening: Gifford and Kotb have no problem running an obstacle course, especially when there's a bottle of wine at the end. The hosts compete against Dhani Jones of the Cincinnati Bengals, but, inexplicably, they lose the competition by failing to open a bottle of wine faster than the football player.


Frank Gifford Chokes on a Cocktail: Gifford hesitates to drink a cayenne pepper cocktail and says, "I need ... a real man to drink this drink." So, she calls in husband Frank, who guzzles the beverage and immediately regrets it. "It's alright," said Gifford, while her husband gasps. "He's lived a long time."


Seth Meyers Wonders Where the Liquor Is: While no one actually drinks in this clip, Seth Meyers seems to think it's just a matter of time. Although he declares Gifford and Kotb "slightly less insane" than they're portrayed on 'Saturday Night Live,' he suspects on-air drinking is just around the corner. "I feel, like, you guys had me on early on purpose," he said suspiciously.

Isnt there a game show about passing out that needs two old dowshbags to cackle and make stupid comments- MADD should get off their duffs and protest early morning drinking on TV. And that annoying screeching laugh is no longer sexy- coming from a retread. Love the vid about the guy who once played football when the helmuts were made of cloth and leather. Notice he took the drink with him even though he was choking- 80 and pickled- really entertaining if you are watching from a nursing home...who is doing the programming Lawrence Welk?

I tried watching them once, but apparently the more you watch, the dumber you get. Eventually, you must get stupid enough that you start to like this kind of mindless tripe, from these two geriatric broads. That, and there is really nothing else on, would be the only explanation I can see for their apparent popularity.

Wow, how moronic. Why don't these bar buckets just cram a syring of meth into thier neck? Oh wait, that would be socially unacceptable- even though exponentially more damage is done to society as a whole by alcohol abuse than any other drug. Yes, I said drug. Alcohol is a drug. Fricken sheeple. You make me sick.

I quit watching their show because of all the drinking. They know it's bad to drink - you can see it in the gleam in their eyes when they're pouring it. They're getting away with something naughty and they KNOW it! The average tv watcher is going to see the "wholesome" ladies drinking and think "why can't I do that??"

Interesting. Can you imagine if they ran a show like this around smoking cigars rather than drinking alcohol? Or wouldn't our "Freedom Of Speech" allow that in this country? Try reading "Lie # 2" At TheTruthIsALie.com and think about it. (No, I'm not advocating cutting all drinking segments out of movie and TV... nor all smoking segments. - MJM

We have a huge drinking problem among teens (and adults) in this country. I was a faithful watcher of the Today show, until all this disgusting drinking
began. What is NBC thinking? Is this the kind of audience you want? A bunch of lushes? they make imbibing very appetizing to our young people.

I THOUGHT KATHY LEE CLAIMED TO BE A CHRISTIAN?
WHY IS SHE BOOZING IT UP ON TV? WE AS CHRISTIANS ARE NOT TO TAKE ANY SUBSTANCE THAT COULD TAKE CONTROL OF OUR MINDS. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT ALCOHOL DOES.

The only people that need drinks are the people who watch the show. The show is awful no matter how much booze these two put away. Drinking early in the morning is really funny- when you are in denial- AA would be a better way to spend time-

I TOTALLY AGREE. THEY SUCK!!! ARE NOT FUNNY!!! AND BAD EXAMPLES!!! TO BAD THE TODAY SHOW CAN ONLY COME UP WITH CRAP LIKE THAT. GIVE ME GOOD MORNING AMERICA WHERE THE HOSTS ARE PROFESSIONALS.
