'Cake Boss' Blows Up Some Cakes (VIDEO)
Explosions + reality TV makes everything better. Probably. (For proof of this, here's a video of sand castles exploding in reverse on a reality show. See? Explosions can even make sand castles entertaining. Sort of.)But somehow, cakes plus explosions does't seem like a natural mix. After all, cakes are ... something you'd like to eat. Demolishing them is such a waste. And as your mom might remind you: waste not, want not; you should always clean your plate, etc.
Still, explosions are what we got on 'Cake Boss: Next Great Baker' (Mon., 9PM ET on TLC). Two teams competed to create the best cake for a special effects company. Host Buddy Valastro didn't like one of the cakes, so he had it blown up. And then he blew up the other one.
The teams had to make pastries incorporating pyrotechnics, but both teams' fireworks fizzled. All of this provided the thinly-veiled excuse to blow up some cakes -- which we suspect was the goal no matter what happened on the show.
In the end, contestant Pamela Ahn was sent home from the losing team. Meanwhile, other players were injured while trying out special effects for their cakes. Brian Stevens went to the hospital after a cup of burning alcohol seared his hand, and Megan Rountree was knocked out of the competition after a fog machine landed on her ankle. See, blowing up cakes just equals bad karma all around.
