TVR Awards -- Best Oddball Celebrity Appearance on a Talk Show (VIDEO)
We all know the real reason entertainers appear on television's plethora of talk shows: to plug their new films, shows, books and albums. So it's always refreshing when stars break outside the usual confines of the standard interview and give us something different -- whether it's a wacky anecdote, a bizarre ensemble or a shamelessly humiliating performance. Check out our collection of oddball celebrity appearances from the past year, which features all sorts of bizarre hilarity from Christoper Walken, Steve Carell, Nicholas Cage and others, and be sure to vote for your favorite moment in our poll below. The Nominees:
Christoper Walken Plans a Perfect Day with Regis: Things got delightfully weird between Christopher Walken and Regis Philbin when Reeg complained that even though they live in the same town, the two haven't yet hung out. In response, Walken began brainstorming some activities the odd couple could do together. "We talked about this before. I was going to take a bath. You were going to make me a sandwich," Walken said. Philbin replied, "I forgot that part." Walken then gave very specific instructions on the sandwich and concluded the day's itenerary with a little stroll through the woods. We think it's the perfect set-up for a sitcom.
Nicolas Cage Reminisces About Taking Magic Mushrooms with His Cat: Looking back on his high school experience, Nicolas Cage told Dave Letterman one of the funniest anecdotes we heard on TV this year when he reminisced about taking magic mushrooms -- with his cat Louis. "My cat used to sneak into the refrigerator, and he would steal the mushrooms," Cage said. "He ate them voraciously ... I remember lying in my bed for hours, and Louis was on the desk across from the bed for hours -- staring at each other ... And I had no doubt that he was my brother."
Ron Artest Wears House Slippers, Fake Beard and Admits Unlikely Crush: L.A. Lakers forward Ron Artest is just as well known for his eccentric off-court antics as he is for his basketball talent. On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' his oddball behavior didn't disappoint. Artest appeared in biker shorts, a cowboy hat, house slippers and a long fake beard. "Have you been missing in the woods?" joked Jimmy Kimmel. After playing a little football with the host, Artest declared his "deeply cemented" devotion to his favorite singer, Celine Dion.
Steve Carell Plays the Fife: On the 'Late Show,' Steve Carell proved he doesn't shun his past -- dorky as it was. He bravely shared that he used to play the fife in a Revolutionary War reenactment troupe. "I did it for a few years -- and had no girlfriends during that time," Carell said. The actor then unveiled his fife and gave a patriotic performance.
Will Ferrell Channels Celine Dion: Joking that he and Celine Dion, "go way back to my days in Quebec," Will Ferrell offered to take over the singer's Las Vegas show while she was on maternity leave. The studio audience served as a test crowd for his boisterous rendition of 'I'm Your Lady' (with a delicate harp accompaniment).
