'The Bachelor' Premiere Ratings Fizzle

by Jean Bentley, posted Jan 4th 2011 2:00PM
Brad WomackLooks like 'The Bachelor' viewers aren't too keen on Brad Womack the second time around.

According to Entertainment Weekly, last night's season premiere posted the second-lowest numbers for any 'Bachelor' premiere ever. The two-hour episode was down 12 percent from last January's debut, with an average 2.9 rating/7 share in the 18-49 adult demo. In comparison, his original debut got a 3.5/9 -- quite the difference.

Although ABC tried to put a positive on the situation by pointing out that the show scored with women 18-49, we can't help but wonder if this is the beginning of the end for the long-running reality series. Sure, the ratings aren't actually down that much, but this could be the start of a very worrisome trend for a formerly very solid show.

It's either that, or Womack's the problem. Maybe people are still ticked that he didn't choose either lady during his first tenure on the show?

Tell us: Why do you think 'The Bachelor' didn't do well in the ratings last night?

Womack isn't that desirable, dashing or smart. He is as shallow as his female co-stars. The is nothing interesting to watch here. The show has completely lost it's appeal because the people they cast are predictable, with low IQ's. They need someone dashing with more than 20 words in his vocabulary. Just being honest.

I do admit I was quite shocked when I heard that he was back as "The Bachelor", but what the heck!!! The show has what it takes to keep my eyes watching it. I like the Bachelor better than the Bachelorette.

quite the contrary, i like the show. i like a show that has DRAMA, and this show has it!!!!!! I like it so much that i tape it so that i can fast forward the commercials. I have it taped every single episode.

Bad move ABC!! This guy is boring, nervous and undeserving of another chance on TV of these beautiful gals that are at least wanting a chance of meeting Mr. Wonderful (and he isn't it). Leopards never lose their spots!! Come on, it may be less intense of a problem, but it is always lurking in the background of not trusting someone, it just takes one situation to spark it, poor girl that gets on the hook of this guy, let it go, give another guy and gal the chance!!

I was shocked, but also glad he hadn't selected someone last time as well, but the guy never intrigued me, and often irritated me when he opened his mouth. I stopped watching when ABC first kept trying to shove "Jen" on us with finding love, then kept bringing back control-freak,demanding "Deanna". I've enjoyed the shows where the contestants behave and dress decently - it turns my stomach when they're crude and dress sleazy.

As someone mentiioned, why not have senior citizens match making? There sure are plenty out there. Change the scenario to more reality and stop putting them in a bubble where life is unreal with all of the plush and glamour. It's obviously a scripted show which is becoming B-O-R-I-N-G!!
Senior citizens are the best peeps for this show as they usually have matured to interesting individuals with an uninhibited nature. If you recall the comedic talent and great spirit, i.e., The Golden Girls and the like. Now you've got a show that will succeed....Matchmaking with the Senior Set.

For me...Brad was not the problem, it was the women who signed up for the show. They kept asking the same question over and over. "How do we know you won't do the same thing, blah, blah, blah." Give it a break, move on. You mean to tell me that no one out in "viewerville" has ever moved on or out of a relationship? Whatever happened to "All's fair in love and war?" Grow up viewers!! Why should Brad be the most hated person on TV. How many of these shows have actually ended up with the couples being permanently together? Two, I think? Maybe, three with one couple living together but, not yet married.
And as far as that Chanel (spelling?) slapping for every woman in America? Speak for yourself, lady. And then latter in the show, she says to Brad, "Don't make me hit you again." WOW! Who in their right mind would want to be with that BULLY?
