'The Sarah Jane Adventures' and New TV Shows on DVD, Streaming Online for Jan. 4, 2011

sarah jane adventures season 3 dvdFor most of The Doctor's companions, flying around in the TARDIS and battling Daleks and Cybermen is the most dangerous and exciting time of their lives. But not for Sarah Jane Smith; her life only got crazier after parting ways with The Doctor. Now she's forging her own strange sci-fi tinged path in the BBC's 'Doctor Who' spinoff 'The Sarah Jane Adventures.'

Essentially pitched as 'Doctor Who for Kids,' 'Sarah Jane,' created by former 'New Who' mastermind Russell T. Davies, has won over critics and audiences of all ages with imaginative storytelling, humor and an assured lead performance from Elisabeth Sladen.

Season 3 of 'The Sarah Jane Adventures,' on DVD today, finds Sarah Jane and crew teaming up with new alien friends and going on some memorable timey wimey trips of their own.

Despite some sketchy-looking visual and make-up effects here and there -- the result of a reportedly slashed budget -- season 3 of 'Sarah Jane' offers six episodes of witty and fun fantasy/sci-fi that, like 'Doctor Who,' isn't afraid to get a little dark and challenging every now and then.

Season 3? Way behind on this. Sarah Jane Adventures run season one only on Syfy. Of course, they're also behind on Doctor Who. No real surprize considering how they've polluted the channel with reality shows and other non-science fiction dreck.

Doctor Who no longer airs on SyFy. BBC America now has exclusive rights to air Doctor Who and BBCA has done a fantastic job airing episodes as soon as possible after their British premiere.
