What to Watch: January 10 - 16
I do love me some Golden Globes -- for one thing, they serve drinks so the later speeches get nice and saucy, and for another, they honour television as well as movies. But my favourite thing about the Globes are the totally left-field picks they make every now and again.
For example, this year, you can root for Jennifer Love Hewitt in an acting category against Judi Dench and Claire Danes, or for the very charming Emma Stone up against Annette Bening or Julianne Moore, and of course, 'Burlesque' nominated for best Musical/Comedy alongside stinker 'The Tourist' which I'm pretty sure was supposed to be a thriller. Kudos to the Hollywood Foreign Press for finally making a 'so bad it's funny' award -- the Razzies clearly weren't enough.
Also This Week:
Off The Map - Wednesday January 12, 10 p.m. ET/PT, ABC/Global
This new series imagines a 'Doctors Without Borders' type of scenario, as our young heroes (including Caroline Dhavernas of 'Wonderfalls' and the incredible Zach Gilford of 'Friday Night Lights') arrive in a tiny South American medical clinic and learn from the old hands how to save lives with practically no supplies. But its not all 'Grey's Anatomy' drama -- the kids also have the adventure of a lifetime.
Live from the Red Carpet: 2011 Golden Globe Awards - Sunday, January 16, 6 p.m. ET, E!
One of the really nice things about having the E! Network back in Canada is the choice not to watch Ben Mulroney handle the red carpet. Unfortunately, this is only one step up, with Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic on mic duty. But when it comes to asking even the grumpiest stars 'Who are you wearing' no one tops E!. Here's hoping for another Julia Roberts/Giuliana smackdown.
