Soap News: 'Young and the Restless' Star Williams Crossing Over to 'B&B' ... and More

tonya_lee_williams_cbs_the_young_and_the_restless'Young and the Restless' star Tonya Lee Williams will be crossing over to 'The Bold & the Beautiful' in February, playing the same character.

This isn't the first crossover between the two CBS soaps. In 2010, Amber (Adrienne Frantz) ditched Genoa City to return to the Forrester crowd in her original Los Angeles. And Don Diamont's Brad died on 'Y&R' only to be transformed into Bill Spencer, Jr. on 'B&B.'

What's interesting about Williams' crossover is that she has never been on 'B&B' and will play Dr. Olivia Barber on that show as she has on 'Y&R.' The impetus is that a current 'B&B' character, Justin Barber (Aaron D. Spears), turns out to be her cousin -- a secret that headwriter Bradley Bell has been keeping from viewers since Justin first appeared.

The crossover is set for Feb. 1 and 2, during a major event in Justin's life. Hmm ... could he and Donna finally be walking down the aisle?

'Days of Our Lives' actor Mark Hapka, who plays Dr. Nathan Horton, is leaving the show. 'DOOL' decided to axe the character, and Hapka will be off by February.

Since Nathan has been having a tough time with his love life and has options to go to Johns Hopkins University to advance his career, this isn't a shocking turn of events. And since the character is a Horton, Nathan could be back sometime in the future ... but not played by Hapka.

'Y&R' Experiments With Emmy-Winning Writer
Former 'As the World Turns' soap scribe Susan Dansby will be joining the 'Y&R' staff. The Emmy-winning writer has past experience working with Hogan Sheffer when he was headwriter of 'ATWT' and is now the current co-headwriter of 'Y&R,' and he no doubt endorsed her addition to the staff.

The deal isn't long-term as yet, but the writer is psyched. In fact, Dansby recently posted on Twitter, "Good news on the job front! Got six-week script writing trial with 'Y&R.' Will start in Feb."

Tragedy for McVicar Family
There's tragic news to report concerning 'B&B' actor Daniel McVicar. McVicar, who plays Clarke Garrisonon, learned on Jan. 3 that his son Hank had died. The 22-year-old Hank McVicar was involved in a one car crash and died from injuries sustained in the accident.

In a statement, McVicar explained, 'He was alone in the vehicle, lost control in the rain, and struck a pole and a tree, and was pronounced dead on the scene. ... I was blessed to have such a wonderful son. He grew up to be a terrific young man, and our hearts grieve."

No, not Erica Kane. Susan Lucci's not going anywhere. However, actress Shannon Kane who plays Natalia Fowler, has decided to leave the ABC soap.

Kane chose not to renew her contract. Like many soap stars, she's anxious to try her wings in features and prime time television.

And Kane has had some noteworthy success. She had an integral role in 'Brooklyn's Finest' opposite Richard Gere in 2009. She's also slated for an upcoming Tyler Perry big screen production.

On 'AMC,' Natalia will be written out for now, but headwriter Donna Swajeski claimed that the character will remain part of the canvas. Since she's Jesse's daughter, that would make sense. Fowler's last day will be Feb. 4.
