CBS President Addresses Charlie Sheen Situation

by Maureen Ryan, posted Jan 14th 2011 1:30PM
Charlie Sheen, Two and a Half MenCBS president Nina Tassler addressed Charlie Sheen's ongoing troubles in a session with the press at the Television Critics Association on Friday.

At first Tassler responded with a humor when asked about Sheen. It was the first question of her session at TCA, and she joked that she "didn't expect" a question about the 'Two and a Half Men' star.

In a more serious mode, Tassler said there was a "high level of concern" about Sheen's troubles, but she also said that, when it comes to work, he "does his job extremely well."

She said that CBS has a "good relationship" with Warner Bros. Television, which produces 'Men,' and she said that WB Television is "managing the situation." When asked if Sheen had been made aware of the network's concerns, she responded, "He certainly knows how we feel."

Tassler repeated that, on a personal level, she was "concerned" about the situation. But on a professional level, no changes are in the offing. Production continues on 'Men' -- the show was set to tape a new episode Friday night, Tassler noted.

I do get that Nina Tassler is running a business, and her job description doesn't include being Charlie Sheen's life coach/sponsor but I'd respectfully suggest CBS and WB Television's enabling of Sheen could come back to bite them in the backside. You don't have to go back too far: Just ask Fox and David E. Kelley whether they did Alley McBeal or Robert Downey Jr. any favours by "managing" his substance abuse, and related legal troubles, as long as they did.

Addiction is such a bear of a disease. Here's hoping his recovery is uninterrupted.
