'Community' Does Dungeons & Dragons -- But Who's the Closet Fan?

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jan 14th 2011 4:15PM
They've paintballed in the halls of Greendale Community College, gone to "space" on a KFC-themed flight simulator and been stop-motion animated, all in the name of comedy.

So what's next for 'Community'? Creator Dan Harmon mentioned yesterday in their TCA panel that an upcoming episode will revolve around the mecca of all fantasy role-playing games, Dungeons & Dragons (Harmon talked about it with fellow Squadder Joel Keller in December). The episode will take place entirely in the study room, confirmed Harmon. "They'll just be sitting at a table playing."

OK, so we all know that with this show, nothing is ever "just" what it seems. Can't wait to see how they shake things up stylistically ...

So who brings the magic of D&D to the gang? Like many, I'm sure, I assumed that Abed would be the culprit, and star Danny Pudi didn't deny that when I pushed him for details.

But there's got to be a surprise element in there -- there's got to be at least one unexpected D&D fan in the group. Pudi smiled as he teased that yes, there is someone else who's a closet D&D fan.

So, 'Community' fans, any guesses? Does Jeff (Joel McHale) strike you as the Dungeon Master type? Maybe Britta (Gillian Jacobs) seems more the imaginary adventurer? Sound off in the comments.

I also love this show!!! It sends a message to everyone no matter who you are. You are never too old to learn. The show is super funny and offers a various mixture of all personalities, race, and ethnicity. Keep up the good work!

Best comedy on TV. Even better than Modern Family. Why it doesn't get ratings is beyond me. In the 90s everyone watched NBC Comedies on Thursday and they were actually pretty good (Seinfeld, Friends and Frasier on the same night for a while), now people choose that crap on CBS instead, it makes no sense.

It's because Community is unstable. Some weeks are perfect, like the paintball and the zombies, and some weeks totally fail, like the mean girls/trampoline episode and the bottle episode.
