by Chris Harnick, posted Jan 14th 2011 12:00PM
Steve Carell, The OfficeSteve Carell has only three more months on 'The Office.' Michael Scott will leave Dunder Miflin before the season 7 finale in May, the show's producers announced yesterday.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Carell's character will depart in late April as part of a plan to ease the transition to a new boss.

Executive producer Greg Daniels said candidates for Scranton branch manager will begin jockeying for the position in the final four episodes leading up to the finale.

Both new characters and series regulars will be up for the job. HitFix reports among the current characters Darryl, Dwight and Andy are on the short-list.

Kathy Bates will reprise her role as Sabre boss and pick Michael Scott's successor. According to HitFix, Amy Ryan's character Holly will make her final appearance of the season an episode or two before Carell's last episode. Will they ride off into the sunset together? Wait and see.

Lost interest in the show years ago. More jarring than the show's downfall...how many people can't spell ridiculous on the Internet. Browsers have spell check in 2011...

I'm so glad he's leaving, the sooner the better! Iwish he would take all his reruns and bury them in his back yard for good!! He's not funny, just rediculus. Go away!!
