Regis Philbin Announces Retirement From 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (VIDEO)

Nooo! Say it isn't so! Beloved TV mainstay Regis Philbin announced his retirement today from 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated) after serving as host for more than a quarter-century.

"This will be my last year on this show," said Philbin, to disappointed groans from the audience. "It's been a long time. It's been 28 years since I've been here."

"There is a time," he continued, "that everything must come to an end for certain people on camera, especially certain old people."

The 79-year-old Philbin announced that he will be departing around the end of the summer. A replacement co-host has not yet been named.

I BELIEVE HUGH LAURIE WOULD ADD SOME SETTLING & ATTENTION TO THE ACTUAL SHOW AS WELL AS HUMOR.. KELLY DISTRACTS SO MUCH FROM THE VIEWERS & IT BECOMES ALL ABOUT KELLY & THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT SHE WANTS. KELLY & HER HUSBAND MARK CONSUELAS ARE TO OVER-BEARING WHEN THEY CO-HOST TOGETHER. KELLY, MORE THAN MARK . SHE IS ALWAYS WANTING THE ATTENTION ON HER. I HAVE ALMOST STOP WATCHING THE SHOW. I DISLIKE THE WAY SHE ALWAYS TRIES TO OVER SHADOW REGGIS WHO MADE THE SHOW & NOT KELLY- OF COURSE, SHE DON'T THINK SO. KELLY HAS A HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION (IF THAT) & IT SHOWS. I DON'T WATCH IT AS MUCH, BECAUSE OF HER. SHE IS ALL OVER THE PLACE LIKE AN ANNOYING FLY THAT NEEDS SWATTING. KELLY SHOWS OFF HER IGNORANTS EVERY DAY & WE THOUGHT KATHY LEE WAS A CAMERA HOG . REGGIS WE LOVE YOU & YOU WILL SURELY BE MISSED. I THINK MOST OF THE VIEWERS WATCH THE SHOW BECAUSE OF YOU.

Regis has made a difficult decision, however he has had more TV time than anyone in the industry. It is time. As he nears 80, regardless how young he looks, 80 is 80. Let hope ABC selects an intelligen, likable co host for his replacement. I'm sure Regis will still be around, it is in his nature. Whatever he decides to do Good Luck, he gave us lots of laughs and happiness.
