Great news for Sarah Michelle Gellar fans: After a long time away it's been announced that she's heading back to broadcast series TV with a pilot for CBS.
According to deadline.com CBS has greenlighted 'Ringer,' a series about a troubled young woman on the run who hides out by living the life of her wealthy twin sister. Until, that is, she learns her sibling's life has a bounty on it as well.
Gellar will star in the show, which is the creation of former 'Supernatural' writers and story editors Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder.
Since 'Buffy' ended in 2003 Gellar's been largely absent from the small screen, although she regularly provides voiceovers for 'Robot Chicken.' Despite being pursued by the broadcast networks, her only foray into series TV since hanging up her stake was 'The Wonderful Maladys,' which she also executive-produced. A pilot episode was shot for HBO in 2009 but the cable network passed on it.
In addition to 'Ringer,' CBS has also ordered the pilot episode of a supernatural medical drama from writer Susannah Grant ('The Soloist'). It focuses on an ultra-competitive surgeon whose life is changed forever when his ex-wife dies and begins teaching him about life from the hereafter.
