Six Other TV Prequels We'd Like to See

DynastyIf you haven't heard, they're making a big-screen prequel to the classic '80s primetime soap 'Dynasty' (which debuted 30 years ago last week). It will be set in the 1960s -- probably an excuse to get some of that 'Mad Men' feel -- and will show how Blake Carrington came to power and met Alexis.

It's hard to say how many people will actually go to a theater to see a movie based on a 25 year-old nighttime soap. Are even 'Dynasty' fans waiting for a prequel? Maybe if they cast Jon Hamm and Angelina Jolie to play Blake and Alexis (or they keep it on the small screen, which makes more sense).

Hollywood is making more and more prequels now. We've seen one for 'Battlestar Galactica' ('Caprica') and prequels are in the works for both 'Burn Notice' and 'Spartacus.' Here are seven more it might be fun to see:

30 Rock'30 Rock.' We see a lot of flashbacks on the NBC comedy, usually scenes with Liz as a kid/teenager or some commercial that Jenna made before she became the star of 'The Girlie Show.' But what might be fun to see are the years that Liz and Jenna spent together as roommates in Chicago.

We'd see them meeting for the first time, getting an apartment together, going on auditions, meeting guys and trying to make their way in the big city for the first time.

It could be like Mary and Rhoda for a new generation.

'Mad Men.' We've seen Don in the Army and selling suits to Roger, but how about a prequel that shows the earliest days of Sterling Cooper and what Bertram Cooper was up to in the '40s and '50s? That would be quite fascinating, and maybe even set off even more retro fashion and design trends.

We'd also get to see a younger, sexier Mrs. Blankenship. Oh yeah!

White Collar'White Collar.' We need to see how Kate got such a hold on Neal. Plus, what was Neal's life like before meeting Peter and going to jail and then getting released to help the FBI? And how did he meet Moz?

That could be a whole other show: weekly "caper" episodes where Neal steals something instead of helping find something that was stolen. If it's a movie, it could end with Neal getting caught by Peter the first time and sent to jail.

'The Office.' There are a lot of, um, characters in the Dunder-Mifflin Scranton office, and each one is so tied into that world that we sometimes forget that some of these people had jobs before coming to Dunder-Mifflin. How about a prequel that shows us what Michael was like as a young salesman? With Steve Carell leaving, it'd be a way to keep the character while recasting.

I'd like to see what Jim was doing pre-DM; since he's been one of the more normal employees at the paper company, it would be fun to see if this job changed him in any way.

'Two and a Half Men.' Charlie Harper is always yearning for the good old days before Alan and Jake moved in. Let's see a prequel where we see how Charlie lived before the other one and a half men were added to the house.

I'm guessing he dated a lot of women and partied a lot?

Coupon Suzy'Coupon Suzy: The Movie.' How did she get involved in coupons? Was there a financial crisis in her past that made her want to learn ways to save money? What did you do for work before entering the world of coupons?

And most importantly: where did she first find that green sweater?

What prequels would you like to see?

Burn Notice when Michael used to be a spy...his Irish accent, meeting Fiona, Sam as an Navy Seal - that would be explosive.
And Modern Family... when Cam was on a farm

I wish they would stop with the prequels and work on more unique storylines.
