'Bones' Season 6, Episode 10 Recap
['Bones' - 'The Body in the Bag']Welcome back to 'Bones.' When we last left our intrepid and socially awkward forensic anthropologist, also known as Dr. Temperance Brennan, she was going through a bit of an identity crisis after working on a body whose profile nearly mimicked her own life. This week, her roller coaster ride with Booth seemed to continue as Seeley decides to let Hannah in on some well-kept secrets.
However, just as viewers thought the ride was about to plunge down a deep, dark hole, Temperance came about and made a decision that could change how we look at her relationship with Booth.
At the very end of the episode, Brennan decided to forego her feelings for Booth and move on with her romantic life. Just like that, 'Bones' has a new playing field.
This will probably come as somewhat as a disappointment to long time fans of the series who've been patiently waiting for the crime-solving partners to become much more. They've probably been thinking that, any day now, the writers and producers of the show would finally stop playing with their emotions and get that crazy couple together. Now it seems that not only will Brennan move on with her life, but Hannah will be around for longer than people thought.
Don't fret about this, as it's a good thing for both fans and the show. Since the season began almost every recap has begun with something like 'We hate Hannah. She needs to leave.' While many of you have been in agreement with this assessment, it really doesn't add up to much of a review of the show. Now that new rules are in place, you can breathe a bit easier and enjoy the program as a whole.
So what if Hannah and Booth finally get married? So what if Brennan eventually marries the guy who hit on her and Hannah in this week's episode? It doesn't matter anymore. We all know that, sooner or later, Booth or Brennan is going to interrupt one or the other's wedding, shout about their unrequited love for each other and run off to get married. Until then, patience will be needed.
So, rather than fuming over this week's events, you can begin to review other aspects of 'Bones,' like the mystery of the week. For example, the murder suspect in this week's installment was totally out of left field. Normally, the murderer is known somewhere around the 20-minute mark. This time, it wasn't known until the last quarter of the episode. The Gucci Cop wasn't even in consideration for the suspect list! Good work on the producers/writers of the series to pull that one out.
If that doesn't distract you from the Booth-Bones situation, direct your attention to the couple that actually works on the show -- Hodgins and Angela. These guys are happy; too happy. They're so happy right now that you can see the shadows begin to creep over their lives. Something is going to happen to them. Loss of the baby, serious injury, falling out? Not sure right now, but there's too much positive energy around them that something is going to have to give.
If that doesn't work, draw yourselves over to the rotating bullpen of Squinterns. This week's was Clark Edison and, boy, did he creep people out! Did you ever see the 6th season episode of 'Friends' where guest star Bruce Willis, whose character was dating Rachel at the time, decided to share his feelings and suddenly couldn't stop? Well, this is what it seemed like when Dr. Edition decided to make a 180-degree turn and become more sociable with the Squints.
Which was both a good and bad thing. A good thing because the man has been pent up for going on three seasons and it's good to see him finally connect with the gang. Meanwhile, it's a bad thing because he won't. Shut. Up! He's too happy right now. Cam was right: he should feel free to bottle himself back up again at any time. Pray that he doesn't team-up with Daisy in a future episode; the positive energy would probably melt the flatscreen.
Some random meanderings about this week's episode:
-- Much grossness at the beginning of the episode. Not so much the body, which was decomposed due to three days of multiple nozzles shooting hot water at the corpse, but all the skin and bone fragments exploding over Bones, Booth and Cam. Actually, the most disgusting scene took place when Hodgins pulled all of that hair and bone fragment from the apartment's drainage pipe.
-- Speaking about Hodgins...the man is buff for a Squint! There's a pretty good chance that the women of the viewing audience will be emailing Hart Hanson en masse for more scenes where Hodgins goes jumpsuit-less.
-- The sub-theme of this week's episode: change. We had Brennan moving on with her romantic life, Angela and Hodgins getting a home of their own and Clark totally opening up. There will be even more changes come next week when the Gravedigger makes her final(?) appearance on the program.
-- Sweets is becoming more and more integrated into each week's investigation. This time around, he was given the job of telling the murder suspect's friend that she was dead -- a job normally performed by Booth.
'Bones' airs Thursday nights at 9PM ET on FOX.
