NBC Comedy Lineup Logs Solid Debut

NBC aired its first Thursday night three-hour comedy block yesterday, but were viewers ready to laugh for that long?Kinda, yeah. While nothing could slay the mighty beast that is 'American Idol' -- not even the ever-popular 'Big Bang Theory,' which was down a miniscule 5 percent -- NBC's newly rearranged schedule performed a-ok on its first night.
According to Entertainment Weekly, both 'Community' and 'The Office' scored season highs, and the third season premiere of 'Parks and Recreation' hit a series high. The debut of new sitcom 'Perfect Couples' scored 62 percent higher than its sneak peek last month.
At 8PM, 'Community' got 4.7 million viewers and a 2.2 rating. 'Perfect Couples' followed with 4.2 million viewers and a 2.1. At 9PM, 'The Office' (8.3 million, 4.5) provided a solid lead-in for 'Parks and Rec.' (6.2 million, 3.2) and 10PM's '30 Rock' (5.3 million, 2.7). 'Outsourced' was the only disappointment of the night, with just 4.0 million viewers tuning in for a 1.8 rating.
Still, 'Idol' managed to draw 22.9 million viewers in its new 8-9PM times slot. Though Deadline reports it was the show's lowest second-night debut ever, it'd be hard to argue that slightly lower but still massive ratings means anything as far as the show's future goes. Paired with 'Bones,' which logged a season high, Fox had its highest-rated regular Thursday night in 16 years.
