Ricky Gervais Defends His Controversial Golden Globes Jokes on 'Piers Morgan Tonight' (VIDEO)
Much of Ricky Gervais's appearance on 'Piers Morgan Tonight' (weekdays, 9 PM ET on CNN) was spent having Gervais address, one by one, the controversial celebrity barbs he made as host of last week's Golden Globes.Gervais never apologized, and calmly kept repeating that he didn't think his celebrity targets were offended -- and that they shouldn't be if they were. The only time Morgan's line of questioning seemed to get to Gervais was when Morgan wondered if jokes about Charlie Sheen and Mel Gibson could be off-limits because the two stars are probably struggling with addiction issues.
"I'm not judging them, I'm not judging them for what they did," Gervais explained, sounding slightly defensive for the first time.
"You're mocking them, aren't you?" Morgan suggested.
"No I'm not. I'm confronting the elephant in the room. They hired me. Like I'm going to go out there and not talk about the issues in their industry. I've got to be an outsider, there. I mustn't come out there as everyone's mate and schmooze. That's nauseating."
By that standard, we're going to declare Gervais's Golden Globe performance the least nauseating hosting effort of all-time.
