Jack LaLanne, Fitness Expert, Dead at 96

Jack LaLanne, one of the most recognizable TV fitness experts, has passed away.LaLanne died of complications from pneumonia at his home in California. He was 96.
LaLanne was a real visionary, someone who believed that regular exercise and healthy eating were the secrets to not only losing weight but maybe even prolonging your life. TV viewers are most familiar with him thanks to the long running 'The Jack LaLanne Show.' The series debuted on on San Francisco's KGO-TV in 1951 and then ran on ABC, ending in 1985.
Besides his contributions to the TV landscape with 'The Jack LaLanne Show,' the late fitness expert authored several books and released countless instructional tapes on health and exercise. His most recent book, 'Live Young Forever,' was released in celebration of his 95th birthday.
In addition to his many awards and fitness feats, LaLanne also ran a chain of gyms and health spas. He became known virtually worldwide and in addition to his own show, appeared in 'The Simpsons,' 'The Addams Family,' 'Batman' and as a contestant on the 50s game show 'You Bet Your Life.' LaLanne exercised every day of his life, well into his 90s, and he never stopped trying to get people to eat healthier and exercise regularly. He lent his name to several products, from vitamins to exercise equipment. His Power Juicer is still marketed with infomercials. LaLanne is survived by his wife Elaine, who often appeared on TV with her husband, and three children.
