'Southland' Shocker: Spoiler-Free Teases of Tonight's Big Episode

by Maggie Furlong, posted Jan 25th 2011 10:00AM
'Southland' continues to up the ante (Tuesdays, 10PM ET on TNT), proving to be more than just a cop drama, and this week's episode ('Code Four') is even more jaw-droppingly action-packed than usual.

If somehow you're still not sold on the show, this is one hour that'll make you a true fan.

With great performances from the entire cast, it's a particularly standout episode for Shawn Hatosy -- poor Sammy just can't seem to catch a break. There's more drama with Tammy and her new baby daddy (or is he?), a big push for Sammy to stop sleeping on his partner Nate's (Kevin Alejandro) couch and a life-changing ending that had me in tears.

A few more teases (all spoiler-free, I swear) after the jump ..

* Officer Ben Sherman (Ben McKenzie) gets his turn at the wheel this episode, but Cooper's (Michael Cudlitz) plan proves that being in charge isn't always as easy as it looks.

* There's an amazing scene with Cooper in the car, driving to beat Sherman as he runs down a suspect. Cooper really loves messing with his trainee, and it's so fun to watch.

* Lydia Adams (Regina King) is flying solo this episode. Not sure what's up with Ochoa (Jenny Gago), but unless you're Russell (Tom Everett Scott), Lydia's partners don't seem to last long. I won't be surprised if she has a new one soon.

* L. Scott Caldwell (Rose from 'Lost') is back as Lydia's mom. Here's hoping her recent romance will encourage her overworked daughter to get out there and get some for herself. Detectives need love too!

* Ben Sherman speaks in tongues -- sort of. Looks like he knows another language.

* There's a huge surprise ending. People always say things like "This will change everything," but, well, this really will.

So, are you watching this season? What do you think so far? And after you see tonight's episode, where do you think the season is going? Take it to the comments, people!

Five hours after watching the DVR episode and I still can't get the last 10 minutes out of my mind. Great acting and the tension, would the bullets run out?, 30 guys against one, truly memorable TV. I did not see this coming and didn't know the actor had another job. Read an article tonight that it was taken from a true LA police tragedy which makes it more disturbing.

Wow! Just saw it I know I'm late however, this guy is also on True Blood and yes he is a hotty. So, all that enjoyed him can start watching true blood...however, he is a gay male nurse ;-). I think he is hot and a great actor but if this is ot ur thing don't get hbo ;-). But I have to say he was my favorite character he will be missed. My best friend says she will never watch southland again, I just think it keeps up with the real world. Why not kill off the the AAA cop that drives everyone crazy (also a great actor) LOVE THE SHOW AND ALL THE TWISTS. But I will miss this character he was extremely human and easy to relate to.

Oh I have to vent. Unless the actor really wanted out, killing off something that worked so well was a really dumb idea.
Never missed a single episode of this show; followed it to TNT. It was the only show I always watched live, but I don't think I want to watch it anymore.

This is a brilliant show, and tonight's episode hit all its notes perfectly. Of course, the ending was a bit of a shock, but I like that this show doesn't pull its punches.

Wow, what an episode. This was intense. I've been a fan of this show from the start... just about everything except the narrator. Great characters, good action and camera work, and a gritty, realistic feel. But I didn't see this ending coming tonight at all.

Now for anyone who hasn't seen the show and doesn't want to know what happens... don't read the comments below---lots of SPOILERS!

They killed him off!!! WHY??? Sorry if I spoiled it for some folks but that was really upsetting. I liked his character...and he was VERY easy on the eyes. Oh well, at least they aren't afraid to kill off a main character. Most shows will kill off some minor character who orbits the main characters. That's why the shows on BBC America are so good. They aren't afraid to kill off a main character (or two or three). Keeps the audience guessing. Oh, well. Southland will have one less good looking detective...so sad.

I made the mistake of reading an article that pretty much gave away what happens to anyone who's seen the promo. Downer.
