'American Idol's' Victoria Huggins Has Clay Aiken's Vote

While 'American Idol' producers put the hype machine to work for 15-year-old New Orleans wunderkind Jacee Badeaux last week, one of 'Idol''s most successful alums, Clay Aiken, is throwing his support behind a different Southern hopeful, Victoria Huggins (not to be confused with Vanessa Hudgens).

Huggins, a fellow North Carolinian, impressed the judges and Aiken, who claims to have not watched the show that helped build his army of "Claymates," in several years."I tuned in for the first time in years, because a girl that I've known for years was on the show," Aiken told USA Today's Idol Chatter.

Aiken and Huggins both competed in a gospel music competition over 10 years ago, when Huggins was just an even wee-er thing than she is now at just 16. Both went on to win in their respective categories and their mothers have stayed in contact ever since, according to Aiken.

With a career that spans over 10 years, at just 16 years old Huggins has some serious talent-competition experience under her belt, including 'Star Search' and 'It's Showtime at the Apollo.' Aiken is confident the perky Southern belle has what it takes to go far.

"I know that when the producers show them on TV, it comes across as if they're trying to get the craziest parts of her, but, since she was 5 years old, as a performer, as a singer, she's always been a pistol. She had the biggest voice when she was young. She comes from one of the sweetest families I've ever met, and she's one of the sweetest girls I've ever met," said the 32-year-old season 2 runner-up.

Huggins may have a shot but only one week into the auditions, the judges have much more talent to take in. 'American Idol' auditions resume tonight at 8PM on FOX when the show sees what Milwaukee has to offer.
